Wow…what a year of 7 Peaks it was! On behalf of everyone here at Ride High Country Central, we want to thank each and everyone of you who participated this season, the 13th year of the challenge.
By the numbers, it was a massive year by anyone’s standards:
- 7,000 – to be a 7 Peaks Champion, you needed to climb more than 7,000m in elevation
- 6,540 – number of peaks ridden by registered cyclists in the 2018-19 7 Peaks
- 395 – 7 Peaks Champions for 2018-19
- 165 – total number of kilometres required to be ridden to be a 7 Peaks Champion…uphill
- 158 – MAAP Champions Jersey’s ordered, which smashed our expectations and initial manufacturing run!
- Four – Soup Boys Hosted 7 Peaks Rides, where we rode with 220 of the most enthusiastic 7 Peakers out there. We’re hoping to expand this program with some exciting new developments for next season, so stay tuned for details.
- One – major prize winner, Melissa Ireland, who is on her way to the Tour de France with Wide Open Road Tours!

To celebrate another great season of road riding in the High Country, we thought we’d announce (and immediately award) three spot prizes…to two people who showed incredible grit and one to, well, someone who was pretty average! A gift voucher for $200 of MAAP kit will be shortly on its way to the following people:
- Most peaks ridden – 27 by Helen Hofbauer. As you would guess, Helen completed all 7 Peaks including 11 ascents of Mount Buffalo, six of Falls Creek and five of Hotham! Congratulations Helen!!!
- Youngest participant of the 7 Peaks – Edmund (Ed) Thompson. Ed’s just 10 years old and he smashed out 4 Peaks this season! Along with his dad Graeme, Ed joined us on our Hosted Ride at Falls Creek (see photo). It’s definitely a family affair with Ed’s older sister Georgia (12) being victorious over two peaks this season as well.
- Mr/Mrs Average – Gavin Plummer who completed four peaks. The average number of peaks ridden by registered participants (who rode at least one peak) was actually 3.81!
These guys don’t even know they’ve won yet! If you know them, feel free to tap them on their social media shoulder.
